Philippe Schartz

Presentation:
Originally from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Philippe Schartz represents perfectly the new generation of European musicians. After studying in Luxembourg, he entered the Royal College of Music (London) and then the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
His professional life has followed the ‘trans-global’ path by holding down the soloist chair of the Gustav Malher Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Claudio Abbado, as well as the Flemish Chamber Orchestra (Antwerp Belgium), before joining the BBC/Pays de Galles Orchestre National.

Instrument: B-flat Sigma trumpet.
“From the very first try I was won over by its immeasurable qualities. Just blow a couple of notes and you'll see the ease of playing, which allows to produce more extreme nuances while keeping a beautiful tone, especially in the piano and pianissimo nuances.
The feeling of ease also comes from the big projection, of primary importance for orchestral work. The Sigma trumpet precisely transmits the slightest impulse of the musician, thus you can count on it during a concert and truly concentrate on the music.”
