Passionately engaged in defending repertoire for his instrument and participating in music of our time, the French saxophonist Alexandre Souillart has performed with numerous contemporary artists (Betsy Jolas, Eric Tanguy, and Philippe Leroux) he was invited to premiere Frédéric Durieux’s Übersicht for saxophone tenor solo at the World Saxophone 2009 Congress in Thailand, and performed at the 29th Saxophone Festival in Japan. He performed as a soloist in Tomasi’s Concerto at the Cité de la Musique in Paris in March 2010 and recently he was invited to perform at the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades.
In addition, Mr. Souillart is an active chamber musician, notably in the duo Atyopsis which he founded with the pianist Matthieu Acar. The two musicians have invited composers to write for their duo, actively seeking to enlarge the repertoire for their instruments.
Mr. Souillart is also a member of the Osmose Saxophone Quartet, engaged in performances of new music as well as pedagogical projects. The group has performed throughout Europe, from the Balkans to Britain, and has been invited to perform and give conferences in Taiwan on contemporary music and the saxophone.
A student at the Paris Conservatoire, Alexandre Souillart has studied saxophone, chamber music and improvised music. National and international winner of numerous prizes both as a soloist and chamber musician, he has received support from the Meyer Foundation for Cultural and Artistic Development as well as the Tarazzi Fund or the Musical Patronage of the "Société Générale Bank". He has recently won the “Avant-Scènes” Competition, held at the Musée d’Orsay with support from the Meyer Foundation.
Alexandre Souillart teaches in the Paris Region, and also teaches at the Taiwan Saxophone Summer Camp and the Rhône-Alps Summer Academy at Bourg-en-Bresse.
