The NDR Big Band (Norddeutscher Rundfunk Big Band) has been a renowned jazz orchestra for over 40 years. Originating from its roots as a purely radio ensemble, it has developed since the 1970s into a band that not only performs a comprehensive jazz repertoire, but also sets its own standards, expands genre boundaries, performs with world-class artists, and brings them to concerts in all corners of Northern Germany.
The NDR Big Band thrives on strong personalities with distinctive biographies, their own strengths, likes, and dislikes. Each individual musician is a master of their craft — and no two are alike. But they agree on one thing: what counts is the sound, the groove, the melody — in other words, the music. The band is passionate about it, heart and soul and you can feel it whenever they're on stage.
