Born in Paris in 1990, Matthieu Delage began his musical apprenticeship with his father, then at various conservatoires in the Paris region. He studied saxophone, piano, percussion and clarinet. In 2009 he joined Claude Delangle's class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he obtained a master's degree in saxophone and chamber music (David Walter's class).
An eclectic musician, he completed his training by joining the generative improvisation classes of Vincent Lê Quang and Alexandros Markeas, as well as Patrick Moutal's Indian music class. He also studied jazz and composition with Thomas Savy, Patrick Cabon and Carine Bonnefoy.
He has won prizes in national and international competitions (Gap, Adolphe Sax, Musique en courts), and in 2011 won First Prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition with the Morphing Quartet.
He is regularly invited to join prestigious symphony orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Orchestre National d'Ile de France.
Committed to developing the 'classical' repertoire for his instrument, he has also taken part in many new works (Frank Bedrossian, Bruno Fontaine, Andy Emler, Alexis Ciesla, Patrick Zimmerli, Frédéric Verrieres), and all these influences drive his compositions.
Matthieu is deeply committed to teaching, and currently teaches at the conservatoire in L'Haÿ-les-Roses, and regularly gives masterclasses in France and abroad. His teaching books are published by Hit Diffusion , Delage Music et La Fabrik à notes.
