Jan Schulte-Bunert

Jan Schulte-Bunert, born 1976, began at just 14 years of age to win first prizes at competitions such as national Jugend Musiziert competitions and the international competition in Kerkrade.

He studied the saxophone at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Johannes Ernst and at the Sweelinck-Conservatorium in Amsterdam with Arno Bornkamp. Later a DAAD scholarship enabled him to study in Lyon with Jean-Denis Michat.

He was a founding member of the saxophone quartet Clair-Obscur and works regularly with the Berlin Philharmonic. As a soloist he can often be seen on stage performing with renowned orchestras such as Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Orchestra of the Beethovenhalle Bonn.

In 2003 Jan Schulte-Bunert was awarded the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb prize and the Cronenpreis of the Holsten-Brauerei AG. In 2007 his quartet Clair-Obscur became pricewinners at the International Chamber Music competition ADMC in Illzach, France and at the International GAUDEAMUS competition in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

As well as numerous concerts with his duo partner Florian von Radowitz, he regularly performs throughout Europe and the USA with his saxophone quartet. Jan Schulte-Bunert has already worked on many compact discs and radio productions. Recently a portrait of him and his quartet could be heard on many German radio stations.

He is professor at the International Master Class for Classical Saxophone in Laubach with Vincent David and Arno Bornkamp.
