Seun Kuti is a Nigerian musician, singer and songwriter renowned for his captivating performances and socially conscious music. He is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, and has dedicated his life to preserving and expanding his father’s political and musical legacy as the leader of Egypt 80.
Showing interest in music from a young age, Seun joined the band formally before he was 12 and took over as its head after Fela’s death in 1997. He has balanced his father’s tunes with his own, incorporating African traditions and reflecting the continent’s struggles.
During his career, Seun Kuti has released four albums with Egypt 80: Many Things (2008), From Africa with Fury: Rise (Knitting Factory Records, 2011), co-produced by Brian Eno and John Reynolds, A Long Way Beginning (2014) and Black Times (2018), nominated for a Grammy Award and with Carlos Santana. In 2022, he released an EP entitled “African Dreams.
