Nikola Fabijanić

Nikola Fabijanić is an exceptionally versatile musician, accomplished soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and teacher. He is a permanent saxophonist with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, and teaches at the Zagreb Academy of Music. He has been a professor at the Pavao Markovac Music School and a guest professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad (Serbia) and Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina). He completed his saxophone studies at the Zagreb Academy of Music and, after obtaining his master's degree, continued his studies around the world with some of the most renowned contemporary saxophonists. His outstanding teaching work has been recognized with more than 60 awards given to his pupils and students. He regularly leads seminars and master classes and often participates as a jury member in regional, national, and international competitions such as HDGPP, AZOO, Papandopulo, Josip Nochta, Woodbrass (Varaždin), Temsig (Idrija), and Saxistra (Koper).

As a soloist, he has performed with the Zagreb Soloists, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra, the Croatian Armed Forces Symphony Orchestra and the Croatian Navy Band, the Gaudeamus Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, Windstrings and Art Ensemble NRW. On his initiative, several Croatian composers have written concertos for saxophone and orchestra, which he has performed to great acclaim. He has participated in renowned local festivals such as the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Split Summer Festival, the Osor Music Evenings, the Zagreb Music Biennale, the Rijeka Summer Nights, the Music Evenings in Saint-Donat and the Pag Art Festival.

Nikola Fabijanić is passionate about chamber music as a teacher and performer. He is a member of one of Croatia's most renowned chamber ensembles, the Papandopulo Quartet, in which he plays alongside Goran Jurković, Gordan Tudor, and Tomislav Žužak. The Papandopulo Quartet is a tireless promoter of Croatian musical heritage, having premiered more than thirty compositions created especially for it. In addition to the Papandopulo Quartet, Nikola Fabijanić plays with the Acoustic Project ensemble and the Mravunac Fabijanić duo, and collaborates with many other local chamber ensembles.
