Víctor Marín

Saxophonist and musicologist, Víctor David Marín is a leading figure in the development of the saxophone in Venezuela and Latin America. Combining an international performing career with teaching and cultural leadership, he has founded key institutions and festivals. His work makes him a major reference in performance, research, and artistic collaboration.

Víctor David Marín is a prominent saxophonist, international soloist, musicologist, educator, and cultural producer based in Caracas, Venezuela, whose career is distinguished by a solid commitment to the dissemination and academic development of the instrument at both national and international levels. He was trained at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music and the National Experimental University of the Arts in classical saxophone under the tutelage of Juan Vega, Jesús Alexander Brito, and Claudio Dioguardi. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Musicology from the Central University of Venezuela. His technical and artistic development has been enriched under the guidance of world-renowned masters such as Jean-Marie Londeix, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Alfonso Padilla, Henk van Twillert, Kenneth Radnofsky, and Roberto Benítez. In the field of cultural management, he serves as the CEO of SaxVen Latinoamérica and the Venezuelan School of Saxophone (EVES), in addition to being the founding director of the Caracas Sax Ensamble, the Caracas Sax Quartet, and important artistic exchange platforms such as the Juan Vega Saxophone Festival in Venezuela, the Villa de Leyva International Saxophone Festival in Colombia, and the EcuaSax International Festival in Ecuador.

In his academic capacity, he is a faculty member at the Lisandro Alvarado Central-Western University (UCLA), the University of the Andes (ULA), and El Sistema (the Network of Orchestras of Venezuela). Furthermore, he is a research member of the “Saxofón Latino” project led by Dr. Miguel Villafruela. His pedagogical and artistic work has led him to deliver lectures and masterclasses in Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Uruguay, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, and Venezuela, as well as concerts and recitals in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Barbados, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela. As a soloist, he has performed with high-profile ensembles, most notably the Bogotá Symphony Orchestra, the ProArte Chamber Orchestra, the Caracas Martial Band, and the Simón Bolívar Symphonic Band. A significant milestone in his career was his participation in the Sevilla Sax Meeting 2025, where he became the first saxophonist from the American continent to perform at the event, giving a special concert at the General Archive of the Indies.

Currently, he is a saxophonist for the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Symphony Orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Latin-Caribbean Orchestra, the Caracas Sax Quartet, and the Venezuela Sax Quartet. He maintains a constant activity as a collaborator with Venezuelan composers. This effort has established him as the saxophonist with the highest number of works dedicated to him and premiered in the country, in addition to being the creator of the first Catalogue of Works for Saxophone by Venezuelan Composers. His commitment to historiography and pedagogy is reflected in the publication of specialized articles and his leadership at the head of the largest network of academies and study centers allied with the Venezuelan School of Saxophone project nationwide.
