Juan Torres Fernández
Originally from Bahía Blanca, Argentina, Juan Torres Fernández began studying music in 1998 at his hometown conservatory, where he was taught by Sebastián De Amicis. After graduating in 2008, he began travelling regularly to Buenos Aires to take lessons with Ricardo Cavalli.
In 2010, he relocated to Buenos Aires to study at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory, where he specialized in jazz under the tutelage of Carlos Lastra and Ernesto Jodos, among others. In that city, he also studied with tenor saxophone legend George Garzone.
In 2012, he received a scholarship from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes to attend the Primer Encuentro Argentino de Composición e Improvisación where he had the opportunity to further his studies with Ernesto Jodos, Marcelo Moguilevsky, Oscar Edelstein, and Nora Sarmoria.
Torres Fernández released two records, Tráfico (2017) and Cambios (2022), both on Club del Disco label, featuring original compositions written and arranged by himself. He has also played and recorded in various projects with national and international artists as a session musician.
He currently continues to lead his group, with which he is presenting the material that will be included on his third album, Azul Cristalino.
Since moving to Buenos Aires, Juan has played at jazz festivals and clubs, sharing projects with the most prominent musicians on the Argentine jazz scene.
