Jorge Puma

Peruvian saxophonist Jorge Puma specialized in academic music. He completed his musical training at the National University of Music of Peru, the Conservatori Superior de les Illes Balears (Spain), did a master's degree in Solo Interpretation at the Katarina Gurska Superior Center in Madrid.

He has been 2nd prize in the Musical Youth Competition of Ávila (Spain) in 2016 together with the Psaiko Quartet and winner of the First Pan-American Classical Saxophone Competition “Selmer Paris” -Yucatán (2019, Mexico).

He has been a soloist with different symphony orchestras such as Yucatán Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), Katarina Gurska Superior Center Symphony Orchestra (Spain), Arequipa Symphony Orchestra, the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra of the National University of Music, Andes Philharmonic Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Ministry of Education (Peru). He has also participated in concerts as part of the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru, under the baton of maestros such as Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Eduardo García-Barrios, David del Pino, Carlos Johnson, Fernando Valcárcel, among others. Since his return to Peru, he has worked for Peruvian composers, collaborating in the creation of a new repertoire for saxophone.

His curiosity and his eagerness to immerse himself in the language of music have led him to participate in  various festivals and courses in different countries such as Argentina, Brazil, France and Spain. He has followed master classes with different teachers and saxophonists such as Jean-Marie Londeix (France), Arno Bornkamp (Netherlands), Vincent David (France), Nikita Zimin (Russia), Ryo Noda (Japan), among others.

He is currently a professor of saxophone at the National University of Music of Peru and teaches master classes at various conservatories across the country.

Together with Peruvian pianist Silvia Valdivia, he is part of NazDúo, a chamber music ensemble. They have been winners of Ibermúsicas awards for the premiere of works by composers from Ecuador and Chile.

In 2021 he released SIX-TANGO ÉTUDES, an EP that is available on digital platforms.
