Giammarco Casani

After his graduation in clarinet at the Santa Cecilia conservatory of Rome in 1994, Giammarco Casani pursued his specialisation with G. Balbi, A. Carbonare, A. Marriner, D. Montanaro. During his training he developed a particular interest in chamber music, which led him to deepen his knowledge of the subject by attending the courses of Alain Meunier at the Accademia Chigiana.

As an orchestral, he performed for twelve years as the principal clarinet of the Rome Symphony Orchestra in the concert halls of the most important capitals of the world. He has worked as principal clarinet with the Orchestra of the Lyric Theater of Cagliari, the Chamber Orchestra of Mantua, the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, the Mozart Orchestra, the national orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse”, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Rome Opera, the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, the Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini and the Orchestra Filarmonica della Calabria. From 2011 to 2015 he worked with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

During his career he has played under the direction of great conductors such as Yuri Ahronovitch, Claudio Abbado, Antonio Pappano, Semyon Bychkov, Othmar Maga, Andris Nelson, Francesco Lanzillotta, Yang Yang, Diego Matheuz, Anton Nanut, Yeruham Scharovsky, Yu Feng, Filippo Arlia, Sesto Quatrini, Gabriel Chmura, Julian Kovatchev, Ivan Ciampa, Giampaolo Bisanti, Vladimir Jurowsky.

In August 2015 he was appointed principal clarinet of the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra and guest principal clarinet of the National Opera House in Beijing.

Giammarco Casani also carries out intensive teaching activities. He works as a teacher at the Italian Clarinet Academy, he teaches also in numerous Masterclasses held in Italy and abroad, some examples: the Iberia-American Academy of clarinet (Portugal), and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Nocera Terinese (CZ), where he gives an important contribution to the growth of new talents in the Italian school system.

Giammarco Casani was part of the jury of the Beijing International Music Competition in 2009 and 2013, of the international competition AudiMozart in Rovereto 2014, of the Marco Fiorindo competition in Nichelino (To) 2014, of the Mozart Competition in Beijing 2016 and of the Lancelot competition in Rouen (France).

Giammarco Casani is artistic adviser for Henri Selmer Paris, for which he is involved in the development for the Italian and Chinese market.
