Wakako Sato

After graduating from Saitama Prefectural Kawagoe Girls' High School, Wakako Sato graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae and completed her graduate school at the same university.

While a student, she participated in European tours as a member of the university's orchestra. After being selected from within the university, she performed at the university's graduation concert and Yamaha Newcomer Concert.

After graduating, she became an extra in a Tokyo orchestra and founded and led the clarinet ensemble Anima. She has been active in various genres, including performing Berio's "Sequenza" at FM Tokyo Hall. After joining the Tokyo Sinfonietta in 2001, she has been involved in numerous Japanese and world premieres, and has participated in overseas performances in Paris, Amsterdam, Cairo, Venezuela, and other places.

Just before the concerts were canceled due to COVID-19 in 2020, she gave the French premieres of Shinichiro Ikebe's Clarinet Runs, Then Thinks and Akira Nishimura's Tree Spirit II at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris. The performances have been viewed around the world on VANDOREN TV.

She received the Special Award at the 84th Japan Music Competition Committee.
