Mathias LANDEAU
Born in 2002, Mathias Landeau is a French clarinetist. He began his musical training on the trumpet in wind orchestras in the Paris region and in Nantes, where he developed at an early age a strong taste for collective music-making, before turning to the clarinet.
In 2021, he entered the Haute École de Musique de Genève in the class of Romain Guyot. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree there in 2024, awarded the Sih-Woo Cardinaux-Chang Prize, and then continued his advanced studies through an Erasmus program at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Kilian Herold.
Deeply involved in orchestral performance, Mathias Landeau has been a member of the Orchestre Français des Jeunes, the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra, and the Verbier Festival Orchestra, experiences that proved decisive in his development as an orchestral musician. He has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Belgian National Orchestra, under the baton of renowned conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Klaus Mäkelä, Antonio Pappano, Lahav Shani, Teodor Currentzis, and Vasily Petrenko.
Alongside his orchestral activity, he has a particular interest in chamber music and has shared the stage with artists such as Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Ophélie Gaillard, Lise Berthaud, and Sergei Ostrovsky.
In February 2025, Mathias Landeau was appointed principal bass clarinet of the Orchestre National de Lyon and is regularly invited to perform with The Hallé Orchestra in Manchester.
