The “Reference 54”, more centered than the “Reference 36”, is inspired by the design of the legendary Mark VI, produced from 1954 onwards. It offers great flexibility, an almost infinite range of timbres, a very centered yet highly malleable sound. This saxophone’s main quality is its ability to adapt to all types of saxophonists, regardless of their style or level. The Reference model even reproduces the design of certain keys from the iconic Mark VI, whose ergonomics were created to suit the widest range of players.

From 2005 to 2011, Henri SELMER Paris released five “Collector” versions of a saxophone in tribute to Charlie Parker, also known as “Bird”. Selmer’s finest engraving artisans created original engravings based on poetic bird-themed designs, each linked to a continent:

• the “Hummingbird”, an alto Reference adorned with hummingbirds from the Americas

• the “Kookaburra”, emblematic of Australia

• the “Flamingo”, representing Africa

• the “Firebird”, celebrating the European continent

• and the “Dragon Bird”, symbolizing Asia.
