To celebrate the launch of the Concept baritone mouthpiece, Henri SELMER Paris commissioned composer Gilles Arcens to write an original work for a quartet of baritone saxophones. Entitled Conception, this piece highlights the sonic richness and acoustic precision of this new mouthpiece through the interpretation of four outstanding saxophonists.
'Conception', a creation for 4 baritone saxophones on the Concept mouthpiece
Conception, a piece by Gilles Arcens
Composer, arranger and saxophonist Gilles Arcens studied at the Conservatoire of Toulouse, where he was awarded several First Prizes (saxophone, chamber music, harmony, counterpoint, among others).
His career has taken him from the world of classical music to the broader performing arts and television, working as arranger, orchestrator, and accompanist for renowned artists such as Vladimir Cosma, Claude Nougaro, Gérard Presgurvic...
With Conception, Gilles Arcens pays tribute to the depth and flexibility of the baritone saxophone’s tone, through writing that is lyrical, rhythmic, and luminous, revealing the full expressive range of the instrument.
Four baritone saxophonists united around the Concept mouthpiece
The piece is performed by four French saxophonists brought together around the Concept baritone mouthpiece: Matthieu Delage (Quatuor Morphing), Géraud Etrillard (orchestre de la Garde Républicaine), Hugo Schmitt et Thomas Barthelemy (ensemble Squillante).
To share this creation with the baritone saxophone community, Henri SELMER Paris and Gilles Arcens are making the complete score of Conception available for free download.

Following the alto, soprano, and tenor models, the Concept baritone mouthpiece completes a coherent collection, widely acclaimed for its even tone and ergonomic design. Combining ease of play, richness of tone, and homogeneity, the Concept line has established itself as a benchmark in acoustic precision for classical saxophonists.
