The Apollo Saxophone Quartet accompanies silent movies with "Journey Across the Impossible"

L'Apollo Saxophone Quartet accompagne les films muets avec "Journey Across the Impossible"
The quartet has chosen a collection of short films, many from the pioneering days of film experimentation in the early 1900s, and set them to original scores. This project will be streamed from this Monday 31st May!

Established in 1985 at the Royal Northern College of Music, the Apollo Saxophone Quartet (Rob Buckland, Carl Raven, Andy Scott and Jim Fieldhouse) has won numerous awards and quickly established a reputation for excellence and versatility. The ensemble has made a remarkable contribution to the saxophone quartet repertoire in the UK, commissioning and premiering over 100 works, ranging from quartets to concerti and film scores.

Now, the quartet is streaming for the first time one of its longest-running and most acclaimed projects, Journey Across the Impossible.

Commissioned in 1998 by the Phoenix Cinema and Arts Center (Leicester, UK), the project is a collection of weird and wonderful films made by luminaries of the silent film era, combined with original scores by the quartet members. The program offers a captivating glimpse into the pioneering days of cinema.

Journey across the impossible

Filmed and recorded in late 2020, the online event features the full 60-minute film show. The Apollo Saxophone Quartet performed the scores live to the films, giving us a breathtaking performance. We invite you to join them on this journey!

The concert will be broadcast on Stream.Theatre every day from this Monday, May 31 through Sunday, June 6. They will then be available on-demand from June 7 to 13.
