Jonas Tschanz

Jonas Tschanz, born in Switzerland, appreciates the huge variety of sounds the saxophone has to offer. Therefore he’s interested in playing a broad repertory.

 

As a passionate chamber musician Jonas Tschanz performs with different ensembles internationally. He’s member of the BlattWerk Quintett, the Konus Quartett, the Melisma Saxophone Quartett and the Trio SÆITENWIND. His musical activities brought him to many European countries as well as to Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Russia and the US. As a soloist he performed with various orchestras like the Camerata Schweiz, the Sinfonieorchester Biel Solothurn and the Thuner Stadtorchester.

Jonas Tschanz has appeared on numerous festivals including the Davos Festival (CH), Musikprotokoll (AUT), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), Jardins Musicaux (CH) and Open Days (DK). In addition to that he’s a regular guest player at the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Symphony Orchestra of Bern, the Ensemble Proton and the Ensemble Phoenix among others.

His performances have been broadcasted by the Swiss radio stations SRF2, ESPACE2, the Dutch Radio4, the Russian radio Orpheus and the Mexican Radio IMER. So far he has recorded five CD’s with his quartets Konus and Melisma.

Jonas Tschanz studied saxophone at the Hochschule der Künste Bern with Christian Roellinger, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Arno Bornkamp (Master of Arts) before he received at the Hochschule für Musik Basel his Master of Specialized Performance“ working with Marcus Weiss.

He won several prizes at the Swiss Chamber Music Competition, Concours Nicati and has been awarded 2015 with the Kulturförderpreis by the city of Thun. Besides he received the prestigious scholarship of the Ernst-Göhner-Stiftung and has been promoted by Migros Kulturprozent.
