Tak Chiu Wong

Born in Hong Kong, saxophonist Tak Chiu Wong is regarded as one of the most active saxophonist in Asia. He was invited to perform throughout Asia, Europe and United States. Besides being a performer, He is also a pedagogue and event organizer. He was taught in Hong Kong, United State and France. His mentors included Michael Campbell, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Michael Ibrahim, Jennifer To, and Scott Turpen. He is the organizer and Co-Director of the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy.

As a passionate musician, Wong has performed actively worldwide with renowned conductors like Edo de Waart and Prof. Jerry Junkin, among others. He works as a freelance musician in many professional orchestras such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia, etc. Besides being an orchestral player, Wong has also performed extensively as a soloist where he has collaborated with the University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Band Directors Wind Orchestra and Hong Kong Wind Orchestra, among others. At the same time, he was invited to perform in various festivals like the Macau Band Festival, Singapore Saxophone Symposium, World Saxophone Congress, etc.

Winner of the Hong Kong Academy Concerto Competition (2006) and 1st runner-up of the Concour de Saxophone Parisien (2008) in France, Wong has received much praise from recognized saxophonist, Julien Petit. After gaining his reputation, Wong has performed various new commissioned works and multi-media productions with different ensembles, such as the concerto for saxophone and orchestra Xian Xia, composed by Yeung-Ping Chen, which has been recorded into CD. His latest commissioned works include Xi. Mong by Ming-chi Chan, and As if…Something in Between by Richard Tsang.

Apart from performing, Wong is enthusiastic in teaching. He is currently the faculty of the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy at Kasetsart University in Thailand. In addition, he has given master classes in Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore.

Wong has also founded groups like 4UNLIKE, Amigo Saxophone Quartet, La Sax and Hong Kong Saxophone Ensemble, which promote saxophone and contemporary music throughout the South East Asia. His recent albums include Xian Xia and Classical Saxophone Duet.
