Over the years, we have had quite a few SELMER saxophones from well-known saxophonists and we are always happy to welcome a SELMER saxophone with a special past in our collection.

Kurt Edelhagen is certainly well known to many jazz lovers. The orchestra leader and bandleader from Herne, who achieved great international fame with his orchestra in the post-war period and founded the “Kurt-Edelhagen-Bigband” in Cologne in 1957, which focused on jazz music (still known today as the WDR Bigband), trained numerous musicians over the decades. This included Ernst Dittke, the first owner of this 1961 SELMER Mark VI.

Ernst Dittke was also from Herne and, as a former student of Kurt Edelhagen, also played in his big band. In 1972, he played the famous arrangement of the Entry of the Nations, one of the longest medleys in music history, with this SELMER Mark VI at the Olympic Games in Munich.

After the death of Ernst Dittke, the 2nd owner acquired this Mark VI and played it for many years until it found its way to us.
This 96xxx SELMER Mark VI tenor saxophone has been played professionally for decades and semi-professionally in recent years.

Although the saxophone was repainted once in the past, it sounds wonderful and has plenty of radiance. We overhauled it a few years ago and it hasn't been played much since. The sax is ready to play immediately.

A rare opportunity to acquire a really good SELMER Mark VI with a great sound and interesting history!
