our crafts
METAL SHAPING
Our metal shapers form the instrument’s main components - body, bow, bell and saxophone necks - from brass sheets, giving the instrument its shape.
This craft involves highly specific operations such as bell-edge forming, tone-hole drawing and press work.
PRECISION MACHINING
Our machinists produce the instrument’s small parts through cutting, drilling, chamfering, stamping, milling and press-bending operations.
Some parts, such as pearls and screws, are also made by our turning specialists on CNC machines.
SOLDERING
Our solderers join metal assemblies and carry out soldering work on pre-assembled mechanical components.
They are involved at several key stages in the making of our instruments, fitting the metal-shaped parts with keys, pads and accessories.
With rigor and meticulous care, they master techniques in which they receive dedicated training, including tin and silver soldering.
SURFACE FINISHING
After metal shaping, our buffers prepare the parts for polishing using abrasive belts.
Our polishers then carry out these highly precise polishing operations by hand, carefully controlling positioning, pressure and movement against the abrasive surface.
Learning these gestures relies on the transmission of unique, time-honoured know-how.
Our inspectors ensure that no defects remain after polishing and buffing.
FINISHING
Using traditional engraving tools, either by hand or with machines, our engravers create the decorative finishes that give each instrument its distinctive character.
Our assembly and finishing specialists then work with dexterity on final assembly, adjustments and functional checks of the instrument’s components and sub-assemblies.
WOODWORKING
Our wood turners rough out the ebony blanks and shape the inside of the clarinet bodies.
Our wood finishing specialists then carry out the treatment operations required to remove the wood’s final imperfections, prevent cracking and seal the pores.
