Jhoser Salazar

Jhoser is a Colombian clarinetist and educator currently serving as Professor of Clarinet at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín. He holds a DMA from the University of Houston and previously served as Concertmaster of the Banda Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia. A prizewinner in international competitions, he maintains an active career as both a soloist and orchestral musician. His artistic and academic work has taken him to perform and teach across several countries in the Americas.

Jhoser is a full-time Professor of Clarinet at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín (Colombia) and previously served as Concertmaster of the Banda Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia from 2023 to 2025. He holds a DMA degree from the University of Houston and began his musical training at the music school in the municipality of Urrao, in the department of Antioquia. After completing his undergraduate studies at the Fundación Universitaria Bellas Artes in Medellín, he built a solid career as a clarinetist, distinguished by his academic training and experience on national and international stages. He also served as Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s programs at Universidad EAFIT between 2022 and 2024.

His academic background includes a Master’s degree in Music from Universidad EAFIT, as well as complementary studies in Paris (France) and Pittsburgh (United States). He has performed as a soloist with ensembles in Colombia and abroad and has received recognition in several national and international competitions, including First Prize at the Monterrey International Clarinet Competition (2018) and Second Prize at the José Manuel “Che Che” Ugalde International Clarinet Competition in Costa Rica in 2017.

Additionally, Jhoser served as Assistant Principal Clarinet of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellín between 2015 and 2016 and has participated as a guest professor and artist in festivals in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and the United States.
