Effel Quartet

Effel Quartet

Effel Quartet is a Brussels-based saxophone quartet founded in 2024 at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Bringing together Kristóf János Havasi (Hungary, soprano), David Patyra (Germany, alto), Jorge Esteban Larreina (Spain, tenor) and Kacper Puczko (Poland, baritone), the ensemble works under the guidance of Vincent David, internationally acclaimed saxophonist, composer and conductor, and Guy Danel, former cellist of the renowned Quatuor Danel.

The quartet’s artistic focus is to place the saxophone quartet firmly within the chamber-music tradition while expanding its repertoire through new commissions, original arrangements and close collaboration with composers. Its programmes move naturally between established repertoire and contemporary music, from Bach and Debussy to works written specifically for the ensemble.

A central part of Effel Quartet’s identity is the creation of new repertoire. In 2026, the quartet premiered Vincent David’s Images, composed for Effel Quartet, at Andorra Sax Fest. The ensemble has also developed its own arrangement of Debussy’s Suite bergamasque and continues to explore larger-scale chamber works through transcription and collaboration.

Since its formation, Effel Quartet has developed an active international concert presence, with performances in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Germany and Andorra. Its appearances have taken the ensemble to prestigious venues and festivals including Bozar, Flagey, Klarafestival, Midis Minimes, PBA Charleroi, Andorra Sax Fest and the Royal Lazienki in Warsaw. The quartet was also invited to appear on Musiq3’s Transmission alongside Vincent David, where they discussed the beginning of their collaboration and the ensemble’s artistic development.

In January 2026, Effel Quartet won the prestigious Supernova Prize at Klarafestival, leading to an extensive concert tour throughout Belgium during the 2026/27 season. The quartet is also part of the Selmer Paris Young Talent programme.

With a distinctive European identity, a strong commitment to new music and an approach grounded in the discipline of chamber playing, Effel Quartet builds programmes designed for both specialist audiences and wider concert series.
