Marcio Costa

Marcio Costa is Principal Clarinet of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB) and a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (OSUFRJ). He is also actively engaged in chamber music and educational initiatives throughout Brazil.

A founding member of the OSB Youth Orchestra (1999–2004), he later served as clarinetist of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Fluminense Federal University (OSN-UFF) from 2006 to 2017, participating in significant recordings dedicated to the Brazilian symphonic repertoire.


As a soloist, he has performed with major Brazilian orchestras, including the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, OSN-UFF, Petrobras Symphony Orchestra, and OSUFRJ. He has been awarded in several national competitions, including the Eleazar de Carvalho Young Soloists Competition, Nelson Freire Young Soloists Competition, and Rádio MEC Talents Award.


He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Clarinet from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Music from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). His international training includes an academic exchange at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (Germany) as a DAAD scholar, under the guidance of Professor Wolfgang Meyer (1954–2019).


Alongside his orchestral career, Marcio Costa is dedicated to artistic research in Performance Practice and Clarinet Reed Studies, contributing to pedagogical development and technical refinement for new generations of clarinetists. He regularly participates in festivals, congresses, and international clarinet events in Latin America.
