Cesar Roversi
Cesar Roversi is a Brazilian saxophonist with a consolidated career in contemporary instrumental music. His artistic trajectory is marked by the integration of Brazilian musical tradition and the language of jazz improvisation, combining technical excellence, a strong compositional identity, and international projection.
He is a member of the Hermeto Pascoal Big Band, winner of the 2018 Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album for Natureza Universal. The award reinforces his presence within one of the most relevant projects in contemporary instrumental music.
He is also a member of the Banda Mantiqueira, one of Brazil’s most traditional and acclaimed big bands, recognized for its significant discography and critical acclaim, including Latin Grammy nominations. Among its notable recordings is the album Con Alma, featuring special guest Wynton Marsalis, highlighting the ensemble’s dialogue with leading figures of international jazz. He also performs with the São Paulo Big Band, expanding his activity within large ensemble settings.
As a bandleader, he has released the albums Entre Linhas and Re Verso, works that consolidate his compositional voice and deepen the dialogue between Brazilian music and contemporary improvisation. He is also co-founder of the trio Código Ternário, with which he recorded two albums and toured internationally in France, Chile, Colombia, and Morocco, in addition to tours in Mexico, Uruguay, Germany, and Belgium.
He has also been active in the classical music field, serving for eight years as a member of the Banda Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo and performing with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, the Orquestra Sinfônica da Universidade de São Paulo, and the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo.
Throughout his career, he has participated in the recording of more than 20 albums as a sideman and collaborator in significant projects within the Brazilian instrumental scene.
He has also worked with important figures of Brazilian music such as Leny Andrade, Hamilton de Holanda, Toninho Horta, Leila Pinheiro, Francis Hime, and Danilo Caymmi.
In parallel with his artistic career, Cesar maintains an active pedagogical presence. He is a faculty member at the EMESP – Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo and is part of the social project Escola de Choro de São Paulo, contributing to the dissemination and preservation of Brazilian music. He also conducts international workshops on Brazilian music and improvisation.
With an ongoing presence in concerts, festivals, recordings, and international circulation, Cesar Roversi establishes himself as one of the representatives of the new generation of Brazilian instrumental music, uniting tradition, original creation, and global reach.
