Antonio Arnedo

Colombian saxophonist born in Bogotá, Antonio Arnedo has established himself as a leading figure in Latin American jazz. A semifinalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition, he trained at Berklee College of Music, where he graduated with honors. Invited to perform on numerous international stages, he is also committed to promoting New Colombian Music, contributing to the renewal of his country’s musical language.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Arnedo began his musical studies with his father and continued his training process independently for eight years. In 1991 Antonio Arnedo, after having started his musical training late, was selected as a semifinalist representing Colombia, along with 24 other saxophonists from around the world, for the world saxophonist contest "Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition" organized by the Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. His talent was recognized with a scholarship offered by the Performance department of Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA), one of the most prestigious Jazz schools in the world, where he later won the “BCM Award” and graduated with honors, (Cum Laude) in 1994. 

He has been invited to participate in the Latin American Jazz Festival in Lisbon (Portugal), to the Latin American week of Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA) on two occasions, to participate in the four versions of the Latin American meeting of new musics in Medellín, (Colombia), to play with the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Medellín EAFIT Symphony Orchestra the work "Suite Colombia", a work for orchestra and jazz quintet. He played at the Kniting Factory in New York City, at the Alvear Theater in Buenos Aires, at the “Encuentros o Encontros” event in the city of Sao Paulo (Brazil) at the Ibirapuera auditorium and at the contemporary popular music meeting in that same city and in many other venues where his music has always been acclaimed. 

He has played, in Colombia, on the main stages and promoted the New Colombian Music scene, a movement that has generated a number of proposals that seek to renew the language of the music of his country.

He has performed his music with Jaques Morelembaum, Carlos Malta, Jairo Moreno, Ben Monder, Benjamin Taubkin, Satoshi Takeishi, John Heber, Aca Seca Trio (Argentina), Trio Corrente (Brazil), among others.
