Zhang Wenkun

Zhang Wenkun, associate professor of clarinet performance, is the head of chamber music teaching and research section, as well as graduate student instructor and member of academic appraisal committee in the Orchestral Instruments Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music. He has been following the instruction of Professor Zhang Wentao in Tianjin Conservatory of Music, and in 1999, gone abroad to continue his master program of professional performer, under the instruction of world renowned clarinet soloist Professor Hans Pfeifer at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Mannheim, Germany. After completion of his master program, he, as the top one candidate, re-entered the master class of Professor Hans Pfeifer to pursue his performing master degree (Konzertmeisterklassenexamen).
His professional career in Germany includes many performances in solo and ensemble concerts, lots of teaching CDs recording for Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Mannheim, and participation in numerous performances of symphony orchestra and operatic repertoire, as well as live performance recordings. He has been as the chief of clarinet part of Mannheim Youth Symphony Orchestra and Ludwigshafen Wind Orchestra, and the guest clarinet chief of Mannheim Chamber Orchestra. In 2006, Sichuan Conservatory of Music commended 6 returned excellent young faculties who has ever studied abroad, and awarded them bonus, in which, Mr. Zhang Wenkun reached the highest prize of RMB 200 thousand personally.
