Michel Lethiec

At the moment, the clarinettist Michel Lethiec is considered to be one of the most eminent figures on the worldwide classical musical scene. Besides his numerous concert and festival performances, he is also devoted to teaching and participates actively in the research and the spread of the repertoire.
He performed as a soloist and chamber musician, with the most famous performers and chamber orchestras, and he is a member of the Trio à Vent de Paris with Vincent Lucas and Philippe Hanon. An enthusiast interpreter of contemporary music, he created numerous pieces and concertos, among which opuses of Penderecki, Corigliano, Denisow, Dalbavie, Maratka, Ballif, Landowski, Decoust, Fourchotte, Scolari, Narita , Brotons, Giraud…
His impressive discography for Lyrinx, Naxos, Arion, RCA, Bis, Talent, Actes Sud includes two great record prizes. He just released, in world premiere, the three concertos of Penderecki (Arion), as well as a CD dedicated to chamber music of the same composer (Naxos). “Luminarium” of Maratka, also in world premiere, is released by Arion. In 2009 he will present the recordings of a Brahms integrale (Lyrinx), of Porgy & Bess, arrangement of G. Gerschwin’s works (Naxos), and “Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind” of O. Golijov (Lyrinx).
A renowned pedagogue, he teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and at the Nice Conservatoire, regularly gives master classes in the greatest foreign institutions and is guest member of the jury of international competitions (Geneva, Leipzig, Prague, Münich, Crusell…).
Artistic director of the prestigious Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, he welcomes each summer the greatest chamber musicians and their students, around original programmes which he also presents at the Paris Champs-Elysées Theater and in several other international capitals.
Michel Lethiec is Chevalier of the National Order of Merit.
