Vicente Contador
Vicente Contador is a global saxophonist: he plays six saxophones (from sopranino to bass) in any kind of music (classic, contemporary, modern, world music and improvisation). With a classical formation, the love for the music in general and the saxophone in particular always make him explore the saxophone possibilities.
Vicente Contador is a versatile saxophonist very close to the new trends in the interpretation of contemporary music. He regularly works with composers who have dedicated works to him. He has premiered more than twenty works by Pérez Ribes, Gordillo, Santiago, De la Peña, Jacinto, Sprintz, Asmus, Yeznikian, Soulié, Navarro, Terrón, Fontán, De la Rubia, Muñoz, among others.
He graduated from the Superior Conservatory of Music of Badajoz (Spain) as a saxophone teacher with honors, he obtained the Honorary Prize at the end of the second degree (1996), Chamber Music Prize (1997) and End of Studies Prize (1998).
He completed a doctorate at the University of Extremadura. In 2012 he was awarded the "Cum Laude" distinction for his research on the saxophone.
In parallel he completed his training with renowned saxophonists including Jean-Marie Londeix, Daniel Kientzy, Marie Bernadette Charrier, Claude Delangle, Arno Bornkamp, Aurelia Sax Kwartet, the Diastema Saxophone Quartet.
Vicente Contador collaborates assiduously with prestigious musicians and groups such as the Sleswig-Holstein Symphonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orquesta de Extremadura, Ensemble XX-XXI, Cuarteto Saxioma, Saxtrem Saxophone Quartet, the Iberian Big Band, Extremadura Film Orchestra, etc.
Winner of national and international competitions, he has participated in a large number of recordings.
He regularly gives courses and master classes and since the year 2000 he has been professor of saxophone at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Badajoz (Spain) and artistic director of the Saxophone Ensemble of the CSMB. In this conservatory, he has been doing exceptional pedagogical work for years as a trainer of many young and talented saxophonists.
