Tiago António Nunes da Costa was born in Caldas de Vizela (Portugal) in 1984. He began his musical studies at the organ in the music school of the parish center of S. Miguel with professor José Pedro Marques. Later he joined the music school of the Sociedade Filarmónica Vizelense (SFV) where he began his musical studies on the saxophone with professor Luís Ribeiro. At the Music Academy Valentim Moreira de Sá studied saxophone in the class of professor Fernanda Alves. In 2004, he joined ESMAE (Superior School of Music and Performing Arts) in the saxophone class of professor Henk Van Twillert and Fernando Ramos where he completed his saxophone degree. He continued his musical studies at the University of Aveiro where he concluded his Master's degree in saxophone with the publication of the thesis Contemporary music for saxophone in secondary education, supervised by professor Evegueni Zoudilkine and Fernando Ramos. For most of his academic career, he was a fellow of Fundação S. Miguel.
Tiago Costa is a founding member of the saxophone group Vento do Norte with which he recorded the album Adagio for Saxophones, as well as performed concerts in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Italy and Venezuela. Also noteworthy are participations and recordings for RDP and participations with the Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra de Sopros da Academia de Música Valentim Moreira de Sá, with which he has already performed solo. He also collaborated with the Orquestra de Sopros da Artave, Orquestra Sinfonieta of ESMAE, Orquestra de Sopros da ESMAE, Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa (BSP) e Orquestra de Guimarães. In this context, he has worked with several conductors such as Vitor Matos, H. Kestman, Kevin Laudroun, António Saiote, José Ferreira Lobo, Gil Magalhães, Francisco Ferreira, Jan Cober and Douglas Bostok.
Tiago Costa participated in several master classes with professors Henk Van Twillert, Arno Bornkamp, Claude Delangle, Antonio Felipe Belijar, among others. With the group Vento do Norte, he won the first prize in the International Music Competition in the city of Chieri stands out, where it won the 1st prize. Within the scope of Guimarães European Capital of Culture 2012 (CEC 2012) he participated in several projects, namely in the Bigbang orchestra, as head of woodwind, with conductor Tim Steiner. He performed solo with the pianist José Pedro Ribeiro in some recitals.
Pedagogically, he has already taught at the Conservatório Regional de Vila Real, Academia de Música de Celorico de Basto, Academia de Música de Paredes, Conservatório de Música de Felgueiras, Artâmega and in the Academia de Música da Sociedade Filarmónica Vizelense. Currently, Tiago Costa is a pedagogical director and saxophone professor at the Conservatório de Guimarães.
Throughout his academic and professional career Tiago Costa has always played Selmer Paris saxophones.
