Nicola Mogavero studied in Italy and France. He obtained the Diploma in Saxophone, Pedagogy and Composition at the Conservatorio di Musica di Stato "V.Bellini" in Palermo. In 2019, he obtains a Master's degree in Contemporary Music for Composers and Performers. He has studied with G. Palma, I. Calderone, G. Costa, J.-L. Delage, and he is currently perfecting his skills with teachers such as Claude Delangle, Christian Wirth, Geraud Etrillard, Anders Paulsson, Sergey Kolesov, David Liebman for saxophone and Marco Betta for composition.
He has been invited to perform as a soloist in many countries (Italy, Holland, Moldova, Croatia, China and Hong Kong) and in venues such as the Gran Teatro la Fenice in Venice (Italy), Theatre le Passage vers l'étoile in Paris (France), Harbin Concert Hall (China), Ningbo Grand Theatre (China), Jengzhou Grand Theatre in Nantong (China), National Theatre of Zagreb (Croatia), Teatro Massimo of Palermo (Italy), Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza (Italy), Teatro "Francesco Cilea" of Reggio Calabria (Italy), Parco della Musica of Rome (Italy), I Concerti del Quirinale (Italy), Teatro Vittorio Emanuele of Messina (Italy), Teatro Gerolamo of Milan (Italy), Teatro Comunale C. Abbado of Ferrara (Italy), Splendor Amsterdam (Holland), Cité de la Musique of Strasbourg (France), Culture and Exhibition Center of Rizhao (China), Kangle Grand Theatre of Jengzhou (China), Teatro Politeama Garibaldi of Palermo (Italy).
As a chamber and orchestral musician, he has played with several ensembles and orchestras, including the Orchestra Sinfonica and Filarmonica del Gran Teatro la Fenice in Venice and the Orchestra dell'Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, with the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Teatro Vittorio Emanuele of Messina, Ensemble Ubertini, Orchestra Sinfonica Castelbuono Classica, The Bass Quartet, Triskeles Saxophone Quartet, Trio Masdan, Palermo Contemporary Saxophone Quartet, Heptachord Duo, etc.
In addition to traditional classical music, Nicola Mogavero is also passionate about the development of contemporary music based on the works of living composers. He has received commissions and premiered more than 30 works dedicated to him. Nicola Mogavero is an official member of the Wady Ensemble, directed by Willy Merz and supported by the Merz Foundation.
He represented Italy at the XVIIIth World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, performing with the Palermo Contemporary Saxophone Quartet the opera La bocca, i piedi, il suono by Salvatore Sciarrino for 4 solo saxophones and 100 saxophones in movement.
Nicola Mogavero has been guest professor of saxophone at the Utrecht Konservatorium HKU (Holland), Colegiul de Musica "S.Neaga" in Chisinau (Moldova), Hong Kong Institution of Performing Arts and Education. He currently collaborates as a saxophone teacher at the Accademia d'Arti Musicali Primo Spazio, at the AYIA Masterclass in Singapore and at the Weekends del Sassofono organised in Sicily by Moger arte e cultura. Nicola Mogavero is professor of saxophone at S.M.S. "G. A. Borgese - XXVII Maggio" in Palermo.
Together with three colleagues he is founder of the Accademia Musicale Stupor Mundi and organizer of the Concorso Sassofonistico Internazionale "Adolphe Sax" in Castelbuono (Italy).
