Joonmok Lee

Born in 1985 in Seoul, Joonmok Lee started learning music through piano and violin. He gave his first concert with his violin, but a few years later he switched to the saxophone and won his first prizes in national competitions such as the Yonsei University and Ulsan University Wind Instrument Competition.

After finishing his second year at Yonsei University in the class of Sung-hwan Lee (a former student of Yuichi Omuro), he decided to continue his studies in France, where he obtained several degrees in saxophone in the class of Jean-Yves Fourmeau and Alexandre Souillart, in conducting with Adrian McDonnell and in chamber music with Paul Meyer. He also attended master classes with Arno Bornkamp, Vincent David, Jan-Schulte Bunert, Walter van Hauwe in Germany.

He won Second Prize at the National Competition in Epinal, Third Prize at the International Competition in Chieri (first Korean winner in saxophone) and First Grand Prize at the National Competition in Yeongsan in chamber music.

He has already performed with several orchestras such as the Korea Symphony Orchestra (under the baton of David Reiland), the Ditto Orchestra, the Korea Coop Orchestra, the Choongbuk Orchestra

He teaches at several institutions such as Chungnam University of Arts, Deokseong University Academy of Music, among others. Joonmok is currently a member of the Animus Quartet, member and arranger of the Project S Ensemble, assistant conductor of the Cheonan Youth Orchestra.
