Born in 1999, Robert Wypasek is a Polish tenor and soprano saxophonist, composer, and
bandleader. His musical trajectory has developed between the rich lineage of Polish jazz and the
international creative community he established during his studies and work in Basel. Known for
his warm, expressive tone and compelling narrative solos, his music merges modern European
jazz lyricism with the rhythmic agility and harmonic depth of contemporary post-bop.

Wypasek graduated with distinction from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice
in 2024 and completed his Master’s degree in Jazz Performance at the FHNW Musik Akademie
Basel in 2025. During his formative years, he studied and collaborated with international
luminaries including Ambrose Akinmusire, Mark Turner, Guillermo Klein, and Jeff Ballard.
Through the Amsterdam–Basel Creative Collective and international exchange initiatives, he also
performed alongside Lionel Loueke, Tineke Postma.

In 2026, Wypasek was named a member of the Selmer Paris Young Talents programme and
received a Fryderyk Award with the Nikola Kołodziejczyk Orchestra. He was previously nominated
for the Fryderyk Award in the Phonographic Debut of the Year category in 2020, 2022, and 2024
as a member of Horntet, Superminimalism, the Paweł Mańka Semiotic Quintet, and the Andrzej
Kowalski Quartet. Individually and with various ensembles, he has earned top prizes at prestigious
European competitions, including B’ Jazz Burghausen, Jazz Juniors, Jazz nad Odrą, and the
Lotos Jazz Festival – Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa.

As a leader and sideman, Wypasek has performed at major international festivals, including the
Toronto Jazz Festival (Canada), Jazz ve městě (Czech Republic), Nišville Jazz Festival (Serbia),
Polska Jazz Festival (Hungary), Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, and Jazz Juniors. His broad artistic
collaborations span generations, featuring masters and contemporary figures such as Jan
“Ptaszyn” Wróblewski, Jeff Ballard, Ole Morten Vågan, Dominik Wania, Marta Warelis,
Joakim Milder, Maciej Obara, and Tomasz Dąbrowski. He is a member of the Polish Radio
Jazz Studio Orchestra and collaborated in 2024 with the French National Jazz Orchestra (ONJ) as
part of the Orchestre des Jeunes programme.

As a bandleader, Wypasek guides two complementary ensembles:

The Robert Wypasek Quartet, featuring pianist Dominik Wania, double bassist Filip Botor, and
drummer Grzegorz Pałka. The ensemble's highly anticipated debut full-length album is scheduled
for upcoming release.

The Robert Wypasek International Group, uniting pianist Wes Georgiev (US), double bassist
Alistair Peel (AU), and drummer Fabrizio Doberti (IT), which recently recorded a live concert in
collaboration with Polish Radio and Polish Television.

With a discography encompassing over fifteen albums, Wypasek explores the fertile space
between composition and improvisation, structure and spontaneity.

His music embraces uncertainty and discovery, ensuring that each performance remains a unique,
living experience.
