Giuseppe Laterza

Giuseppe is an international saxophonist with a remarkable career, combining artistic excellence, virtuosity, and pedagogical commitment. Bridging a performing career, contemporary creation, and prestigious collaborations, he stands out as an active figure in the classical saxophone scene in Europe.

A saxophonist with the Italian Air Force Band and a “quality certifier” at Henri Selmer Paris until 2016, Giuseppe is also a concert performer active in the field of composition; his works for saxophone are published by Universal Edition and DaVinci Publishing.

With the aim of bringing the saxophone closer to the great chamber music repertoire, he recorded for Brilliant Classics, in duo with pianist Francesca Bandiera, the album “ceci n’est pas un saxophone”, dedicated to three major works by Edvard Grieg, Sergei Prokofiev, and Gabriel Fauré.

He collaborates with the Orchestra of the Rome Opera, where he has been conducted by maestros Donato Renzetti, David Levy, and Wayne Marshall. He has also recorded for the label Notami and performs in duo with organist Alfredo Luigi Cornacchia and accordionist Mario Romeo.

He graduated in saxophone with highest honors from the Conservatoire E.R. Duni de Matera, before moving to France to study first with Jean-Yves Fourmeau at the Conservatoire de Cergy-Pontoise (Paris), and then with French saxophonist Vincent David at the Conservatoire de Versailles, where he was unanimously awarded the “Saxophone Prize” and an advanced diploma.

A musician deeply committed to education and artistic openness, Giuseppe regularly leads masterclasses in Italy and abroad, and in 2020 published a pedagogical method for saxophone titled Suono e tecnica del sassofono (Universal Edition).

The dedicatee of new compositions, he has performed as a soloist at the 17th World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg (France) and the 3rd European Saxophone Congress in Trento.

He is a founding member of the Jeune Saxophone Quartet and Ensemble Exigentia, and since 2015, the organizer of the Exigentia International Saxophone Competition.

He graduated with highest distinction (110/100) in chamber music at the Conservatoire Santa Cecilia de Rome, where he also obtained a Level II Master’s degree in contemporary music performance.

Since the beginning of his career, Giuseppe has won twelve first prizes in national and international competitions, both as a soloist and in chamber music.

He has received prestigious awards and has been a finalist in numerous competitions, including the TIM Trophy, the National Arts Prize, the Nova Gorica International Saxophone Competition, and the “Music of the Last Century” Competition in Paris.
