Luis Miguel Coelho



Born in Paredes, Portugal, he begins to study music at the age of 8, at the Banda Musical de Paço de Sousa music school. Later continued the study of Saxophone at the Lousada Academy with Fernanda Alves, only for a year. On the following year went to Oporto Music Conservatory study with Francisco Ferreira, ending successfully the basic course, with 19 points out of 20. Currently is finishing the degree in performance at Minho University, with António Luís Ribeiro. During is studying career made several masterclasses with important names like Vincent David, Antonio Felipe Belijar, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Mario Marzi, Tomaz Jerez Munera, Jêrome Laran, Nicolas Prost, João Pedro Silva and Fernando Ramos.
Also did several orchestra stages with conductors like Rafael Pascual Vilaplana, Paulo Martins, António Vitorino de Almeida e Francesco Belli, these last two with the Minho Symphony Orchestra.
He was member of the Oporto Conservatory Wind Orchestra, conducted by Fernando Marinho.
He was a founding member of the Oporto Conservatory Jazz Orchestra, whit whom he made several shows and concerts for all Oporto city, including Exponor, S. Bento train station, S. Bento da Vitória Monastery, etc. Also take part on the TV show “Dança na Praça”, “Portugal em Direto” and “Verão Total” on RTP1 in 2011, “1001 Músicos” at CCB in 2010 and 2011, and recorded for the national radio Antena 2.
He has done already some important solo concerts at CCB, Casa da Música (Oporto), also played Concertino da Camera by Jacques Ibert, with Oporto Conservatory Contemporary Orchestra, and many more.
Presently is member of Minho Saxophone Orchestra, with whom played in some important places, like de Soares do Louro Auditory live for national radio Antena 2.
In 2011 won the internal competition of the Oporto Conservatory, raking the 1st Prize ex-áqueo Category A, as well as the Prize Casa da Música, having made a recital inserted in your schedule in Sala 2 (Casa da Música).
It was a finalist in 2012 Contest of Young Music Conservatories (CJ.COM).
Won the 2nd place (Ex-áqueo) Contest Young Musicians in category A | soloists | Medium level in 2012 (Prémio Jovens Músicos).
It has also won the 2nd prize in Category A, on the 1st International Competition Saxoporto 2013.
In 2014 he participated in the national and world premiere of Symphony nº6 (UMinho) by António Vitorino d'Almeida, dedicated to the Minho University, who that year won the SPA Award for "Best Work of classical music."
Interested in the creation of Portuguese repertoire for Saxophone, he is currently working with a portuguese composer on a brand new solo piece, for Alto and Tenor Saxophone, to be premiered in 2016.
