Sérgio Fernandes Pires

Sérgio Fernandes Pires, (Bern, Switzerland, 1st September of 1995), began his musical studies at the age of 8 years old, and in 2007 (12 Years old) went to the "Academia de Música Valentim Moreira de Sá", in Guimarães, with Vitor Matos, with whom studied until 2013.
Had Clarinet and Chamber Music Master Classes with teachers such as Alessandro Carbonare, Robert Pickup, Rita Meier, Valdemar Rodriguez, François Benda, Dominique Vidal, António Saiote, Tibor Reman, Kilian Herold, Harri Maki, Heinz Holliger and Sergio Azzolini.

Won several prices, as 1st Price in the following competitions:
-“Paços Premium” (2008)
-"I Terras de la-Sallete” (2008)
-“IV Terras de La-Salette” (2011)
-"Concorso Internazionale Marco Fiorindo" (2012)

2st Price in the following competitions:
-“Prémio Jovens Músicos" (in “ex-áqueo”, no One won 1st Price),(2011)
-"Concorso Internazionale de Clarinetes Marco Fiorindo” (2010),
-"Concurso Internacional para Jovens Intérpretes “Prémio José Augusto de Alegria” (2011)

3rd Price in the following competitions:
-“Czech ClarinetArt” (2013)

Recorded for the first time for the radio (Antena2) in 2011.

Participated in many music festivals, such as: "European Music Campus” (Austria), “Kultursommer Nordhessen” (Germany), Schleswig-Holstein Festival (Germany), BBC Proms (England), “Festival Bozen” (Italy), playing in some of the most prestigious halls in The World: Royal Albert Hall, Europark, Teatro Communale, Het Concertgebouw, CCB, Shangai Oriental Art Center, Forbidden City Concert Hall, Casa da Música, KKL Luzern, among others.

Has played with Young and Professional orchestras such as: Portuguese Chamber Orchestra (Portugal), Brandenburg Sinfony Orchestra (Germany), Chamber Academy Basel (Switzerland) Fundação Orquestra Estúdio (Portugal), Neojiba Orchestra (Brazil), SinfonieOrchester Basel (Switzerland) (Playing in a Tour as 1st Clarinet), Kammerorchester Basel (Schweiz), Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Gustav Mahler JugendOrchestra, and European Union Youth Orchestra, beeing the youngest player when he joined the orchestra.

Playing in orchestra gave him the opportunity to play in countries as Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, England, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, South Corea and China.

Played with many conductors: Vítor Matos, Joana Carneiro, Pedro Carneiro, François Benda, Jan Schultz, Heinz Holliger, Dominic Wheeler, Vasily Petrenko, Carlos Prazeres, Ricardo Castro, Peter Stark, David Coleman, Dennis Russel Davies, Christoph Eschenbach, Christian Lindberg, Manfred Honeck, Nils Landgren, Christian Zacharias, Krzysztof Urbanski, and Vladimir Ashkenazy.

Played with prestigious solists, as Vilde Frang, Hwang-Williams, Fazil Say, Simón Trpcski, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lorenza Borrani, Heinz Holliger, Maxim Vengerov, Lang Lang, Midori Gotõ, Jan Lisiecki, Martin Grubinger, and London Voices.

In 2015 won the Audition to play Carl Nielsen's Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, with the Chamber Orchestra Basel.

Studies also Bass Clarinet and EFlat Clarinet with Jordi Pons.

Currently is studying with François Benda, in the Hochschule für Musik der Stadt Basel.
