Tung, Shuen-Wen

Tung, Shuen-Wen is the most active multi-woodwind player in Taiwan, and has won twice the “Golden Melody Award”, which is the highest honor for Taiwan musicians.
Shuen-Wen picked the alto saxophone up for the very first time in the age 15. His father gave him the saxophone as a gift for Shuen-wen becoming a senior high school student. From the first few days playing with the school concert band, he had started to show his talent already. At the same time, he was attracted by the jazz music. When everybody was listening to Chinese pop music, he only got Charlie Parker CDs in his pocket.
Shuen-Wen received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in the winner of 1997. And he spent 3 years to study with some of greatest teachers in East coast of United States, as George Garzone, Dino A. Govoni, Walter Beasley.
Since 2000, Shuen-Wen came back to Taiwan, and injected his passion into Taiwan Jazz theme since.
As an educator, Shuen-Wen had given lessons to over 500 students since 2000. He taught jazz saxophone performance in the Four-Note Saxophone Summer Camp in year 2001, 2002. Also he was invited to universities and high schools all over Taiwan to give clinics of jazz history and jazz theory.
As a performer, Shuen-Wen played in all the major jazz events of Taiwan, such as the Annual Taipei Waterfront Jazz Festival, NTCH Jazz Festival, Tai-Chung Jazz Festival and many others. He is also featured as lead alto in musicals and Formosa Jazz Big Band to perform with many famous artists, such as New York Voice etc. Sep. 2005, Tung had a successful concert in National Dr. Sun Yet-Sen Memorial Hall. All 13 songs performed in the show are composed by Shuen-Wen.
As a producer and a recording artist, Shuen-Wen produced a Jazz album for children in 2002 and was featured on many pop albums. He is also featured with some of the most famous Chinese pop stars, and tour with them around the world.
