Michael Ibrahim

Michael Ibrahim enjoys an active career of solo, chamber, and orchestral work in both contemporary and traditional realms. In praise of Michael's solo recording, Saxophone Journal wrote, "The listener is in for an exciting musical ride." Noted for his "sheer virtuosity and musical intensity" (Calgary Herald), Ibrahim has established himself as an adventurous figure among today's younger generation of classical saxophonists. Ibrahim has won numerous competitions including the North American Saxophone Alliance Competition and the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition for Woodwinds, the MTNA Competition, and the Coleman Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist, Ibrahim has performed in France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Holland. At the center of New York's contemporary classical scene, Ibrahim has appeared with the Either/Or, Fireworks Ensemble, Manhattan Sinfonietta, SEM Ensemble, TACTUS, Riot, and Red Light New Music. Michael's teachers include Karen Finnsson, Jeremy Brown, John Sampen, Claude Delangle, Marcus Weiss, and Paul Cohen; and has earned degrees from the University of Calgary, Bowling Green State University, and the Manhattan School of Music. He currently serves on faculty at Columbia University and West Virginia University.
