Playing with the Alexi Tuomarila Quartet he won international jazz contests in Granada, Avignon and Hoielaart and recorded 2 CDs: ‘Voices of Pohjola’ with IGLOO and ‘02’ with Warner Music. The quartet has performed in great festivals around the world, including Paris, Sidney, Lisbon and Helsinki. In 2006, with friend Jef Neve on Hammond organ, he created the Jef Neve-Nicolas Kummert Groove Thing featuring Nicolas Thys & Lieven Venken and his own quartet: -nk-jazz- with guitar player Pierre Perchaud, drummer Antoine Paganotti and bassist Chris Jennings).
He formed the Nicolas Kummert Quartet with Alexi Tuomarila (piano) Lionel Beuvens (drums) and Anja Naucler (cello - replacing the traditional double bass and opening new sound possibilities). With Toine thys, he co-leads a double tenor quartet with the great rhythm-section formed by Nic Thys and Karl Jannuska. Alongside these “jazz” projects, he plays with different African singers, such as Patrick Ruffino, the Inno De Sadjo Afro Soul experience, Djakhobo and John Arcadius. He collaborates with different Dj's such as MissMee (Rubba Biskit chez RobSoul recordings), Patrick Balzat, Double Axl and has been touring Europe and beyond (Moscow,Acapulco,Mykonos...) with Dj Vincenzo Binci and his Movida Band, with events in renowned clubs such as the Barrio Latino in Paris or the Ministry of Sound in London.
