British saxophone star, Denys Baptiste won a clutch of major awards from the music industry with one of his first albums “Be Where You Are”, Album Of The Year 1999 (Mercury Music Prize), Best Jazz Act 1999 (MOBO Awards), and Rising Star 2000 (British Jazz Awards). His follow-up album “Alternating Currents” built on the work previously done with his quartet, and saw the artist getting to grips with writing for a larger ensemble, developing a particularly personal style of jazz.

Instruments: Cigar Cutter, Mark VI and Reference 36
"I have yet to play anything else that inspires me the way Selmer’s do. That ingredient X, that intangible element that gives me the feeling that I am playing beyond myself with no limitations, playing something of real pedigree is indefinable but yet real. The reference 36 represents not only a giant leap into the future but a window into the past offering me a combination of not only great intonation and all the benefits of modern technology, but also a vast palette of tonal variation and depth that reminds me of vintage horns. In a nut shell 'The best of both worlds'. "
