Jean-Yves Chevalier

Resulting from the National Academy of Area (“Conservatoire National de Région”) of Dijon, Jean-Yves Chevalier is allowed in the Higher National Academy of Music and Dance (“Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse”) of Paris in the Claude Delangle’s saxophone class in 1991. He obtains three years later the Diploma of Higher Formation Mention Very Well (“Diplôme de Formation Supérieure Mention Très-Bien”) with a First Price (“Premier Prix”) of saxophone and chamber music. With the exit of this course, he is allowed in cycle of improvement (“Cycle de perfectionnement”) of chamber music in the David Walter’s class. After having collaborated in this establishment with Gilbert Amy and Jean-Sebastien Béreau, he is then requested by the orchestra of the “Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris”, “Concerts Lamoureux” and “Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire” to play under the direction of Nader Abassi, John Axelrod, Valérie Fayet, Bruno Fontaine, Mark Foster, James Judd, Peter-Ernst Lassen, Dimitri Liss, Alain Lombard, George Pehlivanian, Yutaka Sado, Maximiliano Valdes, Arie Van Beek, Pascal Verrot and David Wroe. Holder of the Diploma of State (“Diplôme d’Etat”) and the Certificate of Operating requirement of professor of saxophone (“Certificat d’Aptitude aux fonctions de professeur de saxophone”), he currently teaches with the National Academy of Area of Angers after having been the professor of saxophone to the National Academy of Area of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. Part-time lecturer of didactic-saxophone within the department pedagogy of the Higher National Academy of Music and Dance of Paris from 1999 to 2005, he regularly accepts the function of professor-adviser in the Centers of Training of the Teachers of the Music of Caen, Dijon, Nantes, Poitiers, Rouen, Rueil-Malmaison, and in 2003 with the Higher National Academy of Music and Dance of Lyon. Jean-Yves Chevalier is finalist of the First International Contest of Saxophone Jean-Marie Londeix of Bordeaux in 1996. He is also prize winner of eight international contests of chamber music with the Emphasis Saxophone Quartet. It is with this formation that he concentrates his principal activity of concert performer. With more than three hundred concerts in France, Germany, Belgium, Côte d'Ivoire, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Taiwan, Czechoslovakia, Tunisia and the recording of seven albums, this unit proposes today a new spectacle "Emphasis in Scene" which mixes scenography skilfully and clarified around an original music. Opened on the musics of the world, he is initiated with the Indian music near the player of bansuri Henri Tournier and occurred on several occasions with Bagad Kemper. His attraction for the contemporary music the fact of working with the composers Claude Ballif, Thierry Escaich, Jean-Louis Gand, Christian Lauba, Paul Malinowski, Pascal Zavaro and Jean-François Zygel. Jean-Yves Chevalier occurred in prestigious rooms as a soloist like the Gaveau Room (“Salle Gaveau”) and the Hotel of Sully (“Hôtel de Sully”) in Paris, the Chanzy Theatre (“Théâtre Chanzy”) of Angers, the National Concert Hall and Recital Hall of Taipei, the Municipal Music Hall of Chiayi. He intends himself today for the promotion of the repertory for saxophone and percussions with his friend Jean Fessard.
